Pick the one task to do first

Compare the work competing for your attention. This calculator favors real consequences, honest deadlines, useful follow-on progress, and work that fits the time you actually have.

Your task names stay in this browser tab. The calculator does not save or send what you type. Refreshing or closing the page clears the list.

How much time do you really have?

Choose the largest uninterrupted block available before your next fixed commitment.

Tasks competing for attention

Add at least two tasks. Use the consequence that is real—not the amount of guilt or noise around the task.

How the ranking works

The rule is intentionally visible. A hard consequence matters most, followed by a real deadline. Work that unlocks another useful task gets a smaller boost. A task that fits the time available gets a fit boost; one that cannot fit is moved down. Ties go to the shorter task so you can create useful progress sooner.

Consequence0–12 points
Deadline0–9 points
Unlocks work0 or 2 points
Fits today+3 or −4 points

This calculator deliberately does not ask for a productivity personality, confidence percentage, employee count, or a fake precision score. If everything has a hard consequence and is due today, the list is overcommitted. Clarify which deadline is truly fixed, reduce scope, or ask the relevant person to choose the trade-off.

If scoring the list feels like more work, use the ten-minute starter. It gives you one small, editable task and does not add anything until you choose it.
